Floor hockey was introduced at the 2009 World Dwarf Games in Belfast. Teams in the Junior A (7-11), Junior B (12-15), and Open (any age) Divisions play three 10-minute periods on a court that measures 35 ft by 70 ft. Each team consists of six players, with one goalkeeper and five field players. Males and females will compete on mixed-gender teams.
Children in the Futures Division (6 & under) play a 3-on-3 game with three 6-minute periods in which there are no goalkeepers. Boys and girls play on the same teams. Coaches in this division are on the field with the athletes offering guidance and encouragement. The Futures court measures 25 ft by 50 ft.
Early round play consists of either round‐robin or double‐elimination games. The top teams advance to single‐elimination bracket/knockout games.
The Sport Technical Officer for floor hockey is Clinton Howard Brown III.
The partner for the floor hockey competition is Area 8 Special Olympics, Ingham/Eaton Counties.
